We’re Charity and John Wheeler, the husband-and-wife team behind Gathered Getaways.
We’ve been married for more than 30 years, raised our two boys, Zach and Braxton, and somewhere along the way discovered just how much we love traveling and experiencing new places together.
Whether it’s a quick weekend away, a family vacation or one of those bucket-list adventures, travel has always been about more than the destination for us. Some of our favorite memories have come from trips with family and friends — not just from the places we’ve visited, but from the time we’ve spent together while we were there.
Those experiences have shaped the way we think about our own vacation homes. We know the little things can make a big difference when you’re away from home — a comfortable place to settle in, a kitchen where everyone can gather, and spaces that make it easy to relax, laugh and enjoy the people you came with.
That’s what we want every Gathered Getaways home to provide: a welcoming place where our guests can settle in, make memories and enjoy their time together.

Why Gathered Getaways
That idea is really at the heart of Gathered Getaways.
We believe some of the best memories happen when people simply have the chance to be together — family vacations, weekends with friends, golf trips, celebrations, or those much-needed getaways where everyone can relax and reconnect.
Our collection began with homes in places we enjoy and properties we felt could offer something special to the people staying there. Today, that means island time in Put-in-Bay, golf and the South Carolina coast, and football country in Canton.
Each getaway has its own personality, but they all have one thing in common:
They’re places designed for people to gather.
What is Rock N Steel?
Rock N Steel Ventures started as our property management company, but the name has always meant much more to us.
It comes from our boys — Zach’s middle name is Rock and Braxton’s middle name is Steel. What began as a family-inspired name became the company behind the homes we own and manage.
As our collection of vacation homes grew, Gathered Getaways became the hospitality side of Rock N Steel Ventures — a way to bring our properties together under one name and one simple idea: creating beautiful places where people can spend time together.
